At election time we say they are all the same and yet we vote the same system back into power. Holiday travel has a similar effect on rational thought.We seem to blank out the drudgery of long haul air travel and focus only on the pleasures of sun, sea and relaxation.
Humans have travelled to the moon decades ago and probably in more comfort than airlines provide for expensive transportation to holiday destinations in 2011. Human cargo is treated like any other parcel for delivery by air. Minimum space per human and physical discomfort, pain, immobility etc are not factored into any airlines aircraft design.
Air travel for the majority of passengers in economy class is basic cargo treatment of human packages. In fact there is a dumbing down of intelligent applications to such cargo as airlines chase the bottom line of less service facilities = more profit per cargo unit. In some distant future studies of air travel this degradation of human transport will be compared with the ships carrying slaves to market. Packed like sardines and tied down and restricted in movement.
Technology may create ever larger containers (aeroplanes) but the space per passenger seems to be even further reduced and the physical restrictions proportionately more severe.I have ignored this drudgery of long haul economy class human packaging for the last time.This time I shall not forget the degradation of being stuffed into a space on a plane which would be more suitable to my dog.
Then there is business class/ first class and how embarrassing is that ? To achieve anything like physical protection a passenger must buy a stake in the airline.A first class/ business class ticket.
