By Donal BuckleyFree Lance Journalist/ WriterDefining an alternative reality in this crazy world of political semantics, fraud and deception is the Irish Governments game.
Aware of thousands of excess deaths from hypothermia due to fuel allowance cuts, the Taoiseach thanked me for my concern.( 2,000 excess deaths in Ireland in 2010, source Age Action Ireland).
Mr Kenny wished me the very best in response to my letter of concern about the cuts to fuel allowances for means tested pensioners in 2011.
Mr Kenny’s best wishes were followed by a budget cut of a further six weeks on fuel allowances (a cut of Euro 120 extra) per means tested pensioner.
Fully aware of excess deaths of 2,000 pensioners in 2010, Mr Enda Kenny proceeded to cut a further Euro 120 from the poorest pensioner’s fuel allowances into the winter of 2011.
Government’s humane reaction might have been to reverse the cuts and immediately increase fuel allowances to protect Irish citizens from death through hypothermia and other illnesses.
Saving over 2,000 Irish lives is not a concept which enters the Government’s collective alternative realities.
In his address to the nation on Sunday 4 December 2011 Mr Kenny stated , again, that his plan was that people “will grow old with dignity.”
It must be assumed that Mr Kenny was referring to his four “special advisers” on euro 168,000 per annum each.
They and thousands of cronies, academics and professionals , politicians and their associates too numerous to count will “grow old with dignity” of bloated lump sum and pension payments.
Communications become impossible when a citizen writes to the Taoiseach and informs him that 2,000 excess deaths of Irish citizens were reported by Age Action Ireland for the year 2010.
And when the Irish Taoiseach writes back thanking me for taking the trouble to inform him, wishes me the best, and proceeds to cut the pensioners at risk even further.
Defining an alternative reality by ignoring the deaths of 2,000 Irish citizens and the danger of even worse atrocities in 2011 is some crazy act by the elected leader of the Irish Parliament in this year 2011.
Communications with such an individual (with four “special advisers”to assist his intellectual activity) is a challenge beyond belief.
